Day 6 - Rest day at Fox Glacier

Thursday 19th July 2012 - Rian Cope
This morning we rested before we walked down to the Glacier Centre to catch our Heli-Tour of the Fox Glacier. With all our cameras rolling we took off. Man I love flying. Such a great experience. With rolling commentary from our pilot we landed on the snow and it was out of this world. Untouched mountains. Clean crisp air. I wish Jen was here. We flew back down and could see Mount Cook, the Glacier and the rainforrest in the distance bordering the Tasman Sea.
After landing we cycled to the bottom of the Glacier for a different perspective. After a small hike you could see the ice. Beautiful valley - reminds me of Jurassic Park, Hawaii and parts of Vietnam. We then cycled to Matherson Lake and hiked for 1.5 hours around the Lake to get different perspectives of this Glacial water. We spent the evening preparing for our epic ride tomorrow. 120kms to Haast.
